Organic food experts and activists in Toronto for one-day conference


(Toronto, February 11, 2010) Canadian Organic Growers (Toronto Chapter) and The Big Carrot are hosting the Your Food, Your Choice conference on February 20th, 2010.

Taking place in the University of Toronto Conference Centre at 89 Chestnut St, the conference will focus on local, sustainable food and the potential risks of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The following speakers and panelists will be available for interviews:


Barbel Hohn
  - Member of German parliament and Germany's first Green Party Agriculture Minister (2000-2005). Ms. Hohn can discuss agricultural legislation, GMO contamination of Canadian Flax, Germany's organic movement and government support for organic food.

Michael Schmidt
  - Dairy farmer and raw milk advocate. Mr. Schmidt can discuss the power of grassroots organizing and the advantages of bio-dynamic dairy cattle.

Percy Schmeiser
  - Saskatchewan farmer who successfully fought Monsanto in court. Mr. Schmeiser can discuss his legal battle with Monsanto and the problems GMOs can cause for farmers.

Megan Westgate
  - Executive Director of the Non-GMO Project. Ms. Westgate can discuss the Non-GMO Project's history and purpose, and the potential health consequences of GMOs.

Beatrice Olivastri
- CEO of Friends of the Earth Canada. Ms. Olivastri can discuss the Slow Money movement, organic food and the potential health and environmental effects of GMOs.
