Canadian insulation manufacturers and their employees welcome the return of ecoENERGY Retrofit - Homes program

Wednesday, March 23rd 2011 1:00:05pm

Media Release

(Ottawa, March 23, 2011) NAIMA Canada applauds renewed funding and the extension of the ecoENERGY Program announced in the latest Federal Budget.  The ecoENERGY program has been very popular, with thousands of Canadian households receiving incentive payments to offset the cost of energy saving retrofits.

We have seen an overwhelming interest by homeowners to take advantage of the opportunity to reduce their heating and cooling bills through this program. The increased funding demonstrates recognition by the government of the importance to empower individuals to make a positive impact on their GHG emissions and their homes’ comfort and affordability.

This program continuation will result in employment for building material suppliers, heating and ventilation technicians, renovators and related trades people, home energy auditors and the people making insulation in the ten manufacturing plants operated by NAIMA Canada members (1 in British Columbia, 3 in Alberta, 5 in Ontario and 1 in Quebec).
"We are pleased to see the renewal of the ecoENERGY program. It is an important tool that will help with economic growth and recovery in Canada," said Stephen Koch, Executive Director of NAIMA Canada.  "However, to ensure that the program’s full benefits are realized, the government needs to incorporate predictability and consistency into its future plans surrounding energy efficiency and the incentives available to consumers.  Not just one year at a time."

NAIMA is the association representing the Canadian manufacturers of fiberglass, rock wool and slag wool insulation.
