Environmental Commissioner of Ontario to visit Waterloo Region

Environmental Commissioner Gord Miller and his Multi-Stakeholder Advisory Committee will hold their business meeting in Waterloo Region June 3 to 5, 2014 as part of their annual tour.  

“Waterloo has been a great center of innovation in land use planning, energy conservation and biodiversity protection over many years,” says Mr. Miller. “The area continues to be on the leading edge of many environmental issues facing our province.”

Their visit will include:
  • A tour of the rare Charitable Research Reserve, a 900+ acre land reserve situated at the confluence of the Grand and Speed Rivers, which features a beautiful and culturally significant landscape. It includes trees more than 240 years old and a diversity of habitats to support rich biodiversity.

  • Presentations by professors and students from the Faculty of Environment at the University of Waterloo.

  • A tour of a gravel pit rehabilitation site.

Commissioner Miller will be available for interviews:
When: 11:45 to 1:00 on June 4, 2014.
Where: Wildcraft Grill, 425 King St North, Waterloo.


Each year, Mr. Miller meets his committee in different regions around the province to discuss business and to experience some local spots of environmental interest.  Past destinations have included Niagara-on-the-Lake, Fort Francis, Sarnia, Sudbury and Cornwall.
