Niagara, York Region, Cambridge, and Windsor- Come Out and Plant! Join Forests Ontario for their Annual Community Planting Weekend on May 6, 2017

Enhance our urban forests by planting at one of four free events in Ontario

TORONTO, ON, May 6th, 2017 -Interested in helping “green” your community? Join Forests Ontario and our local planting partners on Saturday, May 6th at one of four free community tree planting events taking place across the province. This year, we are excited to plant in Niagara, York Region, Cambridge, and Windsor (exact times and locations below) with the support of TD Friends of the Environment Foundation and Ontario Wood.

The Community Planting Weekend marks the launch of tree planting season by inviting residents to work together to beautify public spaces in their communities through tree planting, and learn more about the importance of forests and green spaces in providing communities with vital health, social, and economic benefits. The trees planted as part of the Community Planting Weekend will count toward the Government of Ontario’s Green Leaf Challenge , which encourages all Ontarians to plant trees and count them toward Ontario’s three million goal.

The events are held rain or shine and participants are asked to bring a shovel, water bottle and a lot of energy! Forests Ontario and its partners will supply the rest “ trees, forestry specialists, mulch and refreshments. Appropriate outdoor clothing, sturdy shoes (steel toe if possible), a hat, sunscreen and insect repellent are recommended. Parking and maps are available at www.forestsontario.ca.

Recognition goes out to our planting event partners: TD Friends of the Environment Foundation, Ontario Wood, Enbridge Gas Distribution, Thompson Emergency Freight Services, City of Cambridge, Grand River Conservation Authority, City of Windsor, Essex Region Conservation Authority, Niagara Parks Commission, and Regional Municipality of York.
